Can We Really Get Rid of The N-Word??

Can We Really Get Rid of The N-Word??The NAACP held a symbolic funeral in Detroit 63 years ago for Jim Crow. The civil rights organization will do the same this summer for the “N” word, the Rev. Wendell Anthony said Sunday. Anthony, president of the civil rights organization’s Detroit branch, said members and supporters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will conduct services and a “eulogy” for the racial slur. The mock funeral will be held during the NAACP national convention July 7-12 in Detroit, he said.

“We are committed to ending hate - word and talk,” Anthony said. “It doesn’t do anyone any good, whether it’s a journalist on TV or a rapper on the radio.” The announcement comes after a renewed discussion nationally about racial insensitivity, brought on by Don Imus’ derogatory comments about black members of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. Imus didn’t use the “N” word in those comments, but was fired in early April by CBS Radio and NBC after major companies including General Motors pulled their advertising spots. “Now that corporate America has caught up, maybe something will happen,” Anthony said. “We have to stop investing in stuff that is killing us.” Jim Crow was the systematic, mostly Southern practice of discrimination against and segregation of blacks from the end of post-Civil War reconstruction into the mid-20th century.

Hmm, I don’t know about this. It’s a lot easier for people to erradicate something like Jim Crow laws, but the use of a word? I’ll have to see this to believe it. Will people REALLY go along with this? Just think about it for a minute…

Oh please! People will just come up with a new word equivalent, shall we ban that too? This is just becoming restless… And why bring it up now of all times like it’s something new? I still don’t get the censorship of the B’ word either, cause it’s not always used in it’s derogatory context, we might as well ban rock, scarface, lewd and subliminal television, violence, prostitution while your at it! My point, that they’re just limiting OUR free speech.

Better late than never. Without question this is something that should have been done decades ago, but it wasn’t, so lets get on with it. Is this going to be easy? Of course not! You are looking at trying to eradicate almost 400 years of programming and manipulation of the minds of a race of people, and change is not going to come overnight. However, to effect change that first step must sometime be taken, and its being taken now.

Inevitably, the question always arise well if you are trying to this with the n-word attempted comparisions are made with other words like are they to be next. Such concerns implies that the users of the n-word have no idea as to the harm they are doing to the Black community by keeping this word alive. It is not just a word, unlike any other word in the English language it has terrible destructive powers.

Blacks have a reputation for not wanting to read. This is one word you need to abandon that trend of not wanting to read. Do your homework and learn why you need to bury this sucka. To continue to want to use a word you know nothing about makes no sense. Start using your heads for more than just a hat rack get into the books do some research so that when you do discuss this word you can do so intelligently. The rhetoric presently used about this word generally emulates from a pool of ignorance. That needs to stop, only a fool defends their use of a word that they really know nothing about.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE WORD WAS NEVER INVENTED SO ALOT OF THE PEOPLE WOULD’NT GOTTEN HURT, BUT UNFORTIONALLY WE LIVE IN A REAL WORLD WHERE ALOT OF INNOCENT PEOPLE GET HURT, NOT JUST COLOR PEOPLE. AND THATS JUST ONE WORD, IMAGINE THE REST OF THE OTHER WORDS THAT ARE OFFENSIVE AND HURTFUL, ARE THEY GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THAT TOO? NO I DONT THINK SO, SO LET IT GO MAN, IS A NONE ENDING BATTLE.

Aida, you just don’t get it do you? This is not just about an offensive and hurtful word. This is about black people learning to have some self-respect, pride, dignity and honor about themselves. Which perhaps means very little to you. It’s funny how when it comes to the African American the words self-respect, pride, dignity and honor isn’t suppose to apply. You have absolutely no appreciation for the sacrifices and struggles that your ancestors went through, their courage, fortitude, bravery having to suffer through the terror and living in fear all because it was open season on them to be brutalized, sodomized with hot pokers, raped, hung, boiled alive, burnt alive, tortured in unimaginable ways all in the name of the n-word. And yet you have the audacity to say this word is just another word.

You have the audacity to say just let it go. This word has robbed you of your racial pride. Because if you had any the only hurt and pain you would be feeling is that of your ancestors and all they had to endure in the name of the n-word. You should be appalled at all they had to go through. But you aren’t. No my friend you have no idea how this word has robbed you of your sense of pride, self-respect, dignity and honor. ABSOLUTELY NONE!

honestly i dont think u can stop ppl from saying the n-word because its aready expose there keep using it u can get rid of the n-word probaly in the rap lyric but thats all they can do people will always will b useing the words in the street the word spread i dont think anybody can stop it now aless u put a law out there…

the people today really dont know what the word is about and how they suffer so much

Nothing is impossible, especially the idea or notion that people WILL NOT stop using the n-word; they can stop and without some legislated law. Will it be easy? Of course not! I t may only take months to get it accomplished and then again it could take a few years, but it can be done. And it all starts with yourself, don’t worry about the next fellow…are you personally willling to stop using the word?

And you are right people don’t understand or truly know the meaning and the PURPOSE of this word. Which means there must then be, and will be an educational process; where there is a will, there is a way.

OMG this is sad… But I’m sorry but I don’t think this can help at all. I mean damn am i the only one that think this is like… foolish? Numbe two all I can see iz Jeezy or Wayne coming out with a song talkin bout this, and having our “leaders” look like some fools. I’m sorry but I think this is A BAD IDEA! Not the way to stop people from using the N word.
