The NAACP held a symbolic funeral in Detroit 63 years ago for Jim Crow. The civil rights organization will do the same this summer for the “N†word, the Rev. Wendell Anthony said Sunday. Anthony, president of the civil rights organization’s Detroit branch, said members and supporters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will conduct services and a “eulogy” for the racial slur. The mock funeral will be held during the NAACP national convention July 7-12 in Detroit, he said.
“We are committed to ending hate - word and talk,” Anthony said. “It doesn’t do anyone any good, whether it’s a journalist on TV or a rapper on the radio.” The announcement comes after a renewed discussion nationally about racial insensitivity, brought on by Don Imus’ derogatory comments about black members of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team. Imus didn’t use the “N†word in those comments, but was fired in early April by CBS Radio and NBC after major companies including General Motors pulled their advertising spots. “Now that corporate America has caught up, maybe something will happen,” Anthony said. “We have to stop investing in stuff that is killing us.” Jim Crow was the systematic, mostly Southern practice of discrimination against and segregation of blacks from the end of post-Civil War reconstruction into the mid-20th century.
Hmm, I don’t know about this. It’s a lot easier for people to erradicate something like Jim Crow laws, but the use of a word? I’ll have to see this to believe it. Will people REALLY go along with this? Just think about it for a minute…
The “This is Why I’m Hot” superstar Mims is coming out with a second single, Like This! Check out the new video from the Washington Heights native by selecting a format below.
How many of y’all are anticipating the release of Bobby Valentino’s sophomore album Special Occasion? I know I am! Hopefully he won’t disappoint, because when “Slow Down” dropped I was really feeling him, and then that second single just shut everything down. This time around, he’s hitting hard with “Anonymous” - one of the hottest tracks on my iPod at the moment (well over 50 plays within the last week or so), so I’m really pulling for him this time around! Anyhow, if you didn’t know, the album drops next Tuesday, May 8, and it is said to feature Ludacris and Fabolous with production from Tim & Bob, Timbaland, Dre & Vidal, Brian Cox and Rodney Jerkins. Check out the official tracklist, find out what’s gonna be the next single, AND check out some promo pics after the cut! CONTINUE READING
You know it’s sad when you look at photos of Baby Daniel with Solange and the first thing that comes to mind is “Where’s Beyonce??” Haha, I honestly forget that he is Solange’s child from time-to-time because I’ve seen him in more candids with Bey & Jay than with her. But I’m sure Baby D loves his mommy. Anyhow, these two were in New York for Monday’s taping of TRL. Real quick! Who do you think would win in a fight between Baby Daniel and Monica’s son Lil Rock???
Urgh! I can’t stand looking at her. I hate when people intentionally abuse their bodies. She looks so horrible! You see that HUGE gap in between her breasts? If you look really closely you can see a mile marker on the left tit … no really, you can! But yeah, I just felt obligated to post this and let you all know how much I hate strongly dislike this trick.
I didn’t get to catch Monday’s episode of Run’s House, but I hear it was pretty funny! I’ll definitely have to check out the re-run sometime this week. Anyhow, the family dropped by MTV Studios on Monday to make an appearance on TRL. Check out the pics after the cut. CONTINUE READING
Her spokesman says no offers been made, but Roseanne Barr’s name pops up when talk turns to who’ll go to New York to replace Rosie O’Donnell on The View. “It’s almost like that rumor that spread last month about how she was going to be on Desperate Housewives,” Barr’s spokesperson was quoted as saying in the New York Post Tuesday. Barr didn’t flat-out say she wouldn’t join the show when she was interviewed on Larry King last week. “I’m not looking for the job,” she said and then joked: “Well, I want $10 million, like Rosie.”
The Post said a source with knowledge of ABC`s search for the next ‘View’ co-host says Barr has the strong personality the show will be missing once O`Donnell exits in June. “She`s a piece of work, she’s a character, she says what’s on her mind and she`s funny,” the source said. Other possible co-host names floating around include Joan Rivers, Whoopi Goldberg, Kathie Lee Gifford, Connie Chung, Bette Midler and Kathy Griffin.
Oh, goody! Another fat white lady with a big mouth! I guess those are the new requirements for being on The View. That’s probably why they gave Star Jones the boot. Anyhow, I don’t think it’s a good look for Rosie (Barr)Â to replace Rosie (O’Donnell). I think Sanjaya would make a better candidate! What do you guys think??
Ne-Yo’s “Because of You” is in stores TODAY! Check out GiantMag.com’s review of Ne-Yo’s album here.
“Where In My Own Words, Ne-Yo’s debut, highlighted the artist’s uncanny ability to craft crossover hits, Because Of You reveals his sense of the power and history of his genre, and the fingerprints of R&B crossover pioneers like Jackson, Prince, and even R. Kelly are found throughout.” -GiantMag.com
You can also check out more photos of Ne-Yo’s album release party after the cut. Kanye West, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo (of course) and a whole lotta nobodies were on hand at this event. So I just posted the most famous ones - and the ones I know (lol). You may recognize some of the ladies from America’s Next Top Model…
Do not sleep on this young lady! You may recall Tiffany Evans, 15, from the previous post I wrote before. I believe I made a mistake, when I said she was a “New Artist,” I think she just switched labels. but anyway another track, “Girls Gone Wild,” from Tiffany (possibly second single we hope!) and produced by Brian Kidd, of the Clutch, who produces tracks under Timbaland Productions. I love this shit! The beat is madness and the lyrics are so strong like G (credit) said, I agree with everything he said. I encourage all these fast *cough* Deena Alleyne *cough* young HO’S ladies to take a listen!
Last month BET aired a show called ‘The Greatest 25 Dancers of All Time’. The list was controversial, and prompted reactions from New York’s Dance Community - see video above. Big thanks to my homeboy Harry over at JumpOff.TV for the video link and list below.
