The cast of Tyler Perry’s latest movie, “Why Did I Get Married?”, paid a visit to BET’s 106 & Park last Thursday (Oct. 11) to discuss their roles in the movie. Jill Scott, Janet Jackson, and of course Tyler Perry himself, all showed up. The movie hit theaters nationwide this past Friday, and so far, while I haven’t had the chance to see it myself, I’m hearing nothing but good things about it. According to BLOOMBERG, the movie grossed at over $21 million and is currently the #1 movie in North America (US & Canada)! Definitely a good look…

Oct.14.2007 // GET IN THE KNOW w/ FUN*DMENTAL, DANJA AND KERI HILSON!

• GROUP SPOTLIGHT: FUN*DMENTAL •

FDM

I have been following this “Fundmental” group since about late 2006 so it is no surprise that United Kingdom’s very own break-out R&B act FDM (from left to right: Baby-V, Jermaine, & Kyle) has scored a major recording deal with Geffen Records earlier this Summer. The boys (now collectively known as FDM) are in the studio culminating the finishing touches on their new highly anticipated album, Backstage Pass, as we speak! Their sound is very Uptempo and “flashy”; the arrangement of harmonies are so stellar it is enticing! FDM fuses a New Age sound of Contemporary, Pop, and R&B — they are the future! They have already posted some recent material from the album Backstage Pass on their MySpace.

• PRODUCER’S SPOTLIGHT: NATE ‘DANJAHANDZ’ HILLS •

Danja

I believe I previously spotlighted this guy and stated that he was going to be BIG! Declared commonly as “Timbaland’s protégé” Nate ‘Danjahandz‘ Hills (or Danja for short) is also the prophet of our time already scoring a major solo producing for Britney Spears, Madonna, and Missy Elliott’s new project just to name few. I really love and respect Timbaland but he really has nothing on this young man, who has mastered his craft studying piano and percussion since his pre-teens. Timbaland does reinvent his work every so often, I will give him that, but it is usually redundant with the same kick drum. I heard Beyoncé will be collaborating with Timbaland on her new project - WRONG BEYONCÉ - get Danja (he is the future) and Timbaland will not be hot anymore when your album releases. T.I., Tiny, and Others Arrested on Firearm Charges!
PHOTO: SPLASH NEWS

T.I. and his crew (including longtime girlfriend Tameka “Tiny” Cottle) were arrested Saturday evening in a Walgreens parking lot just hours before he was to perform AND receive two awards at the BET Hip Hop Awards. Word on the block is he planned to pick up machine guns and silencers bought for him by his bodyguard

T.I. is in trouble with the ATF. Federal agents nabbed the Grammy Award-winning rapper Saturday in a parking lot where he allegedly planned to pick up machine guns and silencers bought for him by his bodyguard. The arrest came just hours before he was to perform at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. The self-proclaimed “King of the South” won two awards despite his absence.

Born Clifford Harris, the 27-year-old lyricist is charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers, as well as possession of firearms by a convicted felon. T.I. was sentenced to three years in prison for a probation violation on a drug conviction in 2004, but served only part of his sentence. His latest arrest came after a federal firearms dealer told the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives a man was inquiring about buying a machine gun without legally registering the weapon, according to a criminal complaint filed yesterday. After trying to buy several machine guns from an undercover ATF agent, the unnamed person began cooperating with the government and said he was buying the machine guns and silencers for Harris, the complaint said. Here is the video premiere of Fergie’s new single, “Clumsy” directed by Marc Webb and Rich Lee, from her platinum selling debut The Dutchess. This will mark Fergie’s fifth single from The Dutchess. The song samples from Little Richard’s “The Girl Can’t Help It”, hence the “can’t help it” part. It’s alright, the video is very creative.

ALBUM REVIEW: MARIO - GO!
[ MORE INFORMATION ] [ OFFICIAL WEBSITE ] [ BUY MARIO'S ALBUM ] [ MY RATING: +/- 5 ]

Platinum selling recording artist Mario returns with his third studio effort entitled Go! in stores Oct-uh … November 27th … ??? Despite the constant letdowns and frequent post-pones from Mario’s label - I, surprisingly, enjoyed the album. I heard some ultra sweet arrangements and solid production; that including The Neptunes, Stargate, Timbaland and Ne-Yo. Both erotic AND eclectic, Go! reached systemic volumes, the album had some great Uptempo and Downbeat on it. Standout tracks from the LP, in my opinion, are “Go”, “Crying Out For Me”, “Why” and “Right And Wrong Way”.

Oct.11.2007 // Fourteen-Year-Old Boy Opens Fire at Ohio School Before Killing Himself

Fourteen-Year-Old Boy Opens Fire at Ohio School Before Killing Himself
PHOTOS COURTESY OF AP

I’m sure you’ve all caught wind to this story of a 14-year-old high school student who brought guns to school after being suspended and shot rounds in the hallways directing his anger towards specific students and teachers. Check out the developing story from CNN below…

It was only after a crowd of screaming students ran past Darnell Rodgers in a stairway at his Cleveland, Ohio, high school Wednesday afternoon that he realized he had been shot. “They were screaming, ‘Oh my God! Oh my God,’” said Rodgers, a senior at SuccessTech Academy near downtown Cleveland. Rodgers suddenly felt his arm “burning,” he said, and realized he had been shot in the elbow. Police have started to piece together what happened. At around 1:15 p.m. ET, 14-year-old gunman Asa Coon, who was a student at the school, walked the halls firing a gun in each hand, Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath said. When it was all over, five people had been shot, but the only fatality was Coon, who police said killed himself in a classroom. Police found a .22- caliber revolver and .38-caliber revolver near Coon’s body, along with a box of ammunition and three knives, said McGrath. Investigators have reason to believe some victims were specifically targeted by Coon, who had been suspended from school Monday.

“We do not believe this was a random shooting,” McGrath said. “It may have been the teachers he went to the school looking for. … I believe they disciplined him in some manner.” Rodgers was treated and released from the hospital, but others were more seriously injured. Coon shot 57-year-old teacher David Kachadourian in the back and shot a 42-year-old teacher in the chest, officials said. Edward Eckart, commissioner of EMS Cleveland, said the 42-year-old underwent surgery at MetroHealth Medical Center and was in stable condition at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Fifty-seven-year-old Kachadourian was in stable condition, he said. In addition, a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his side and a 15-year-old female with a knee injury were transported to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, where they were in stable condition Wednesday night, Eckart said. McGrath said Coon and another student were suspended Monday after they apparently got in a fight outside the school. CONTINUE READING

Oct.11.2007 // New Usher Album Coming Soon? Nope, Sorry, No Way José!

New Usher Album Coming Soon? Nope, Sorry, No Way José!
PHOTO: CONTACT MUSIC

Tameka’s starting to piss me off again. I’ve done a pretty good job over the past month or so not calling her by her famed alias “Man-eka,” but that’s about to end … now. I used to be a diehard Usher fan, and while I haven’t been fond of the way he’s been acting since meeting his new husband/baby-daddy, I’ve still managed to anticipate this upcoming album. Because let’s face it, the man can make some good music! Confessions, anyone? But back to the matter at hand…

According to recent reports, Man-eka has “ordered him” to focus on their impending parenthood instead of his musical career. Gossip column PageSix claims that “she has banned” Usher from making his big comeback - which was scheduled for next month, November ‘07 - until long after Usher Raymond XXV is born. Here’s what an anonymous source is saying:

Usher only listens to Tameka now, and she wants all Usher’s focus to be on her and the baby. The album had been in the works for over a year… now it looks like it’s never going to happen.

Ordered? Banned? WTF?! What kind of “man” is he? I guess we all know who wears the pants in this relationship. The twat can’t be THAT good, can it?!

Oct.11.2007 // Mike Vick Has to Hand over $20 Million to the Atlanta Falcons!

Mike Vick Has to Hand over $20 Million to the Atlanta Falcons!

As if losing all credibility and possibly his career wasn’t enough, in addition to receiving some jail time (length unknown at the moment), Mr. Michael Vick, who was charged on several counts of “animal cruelty” has to pay a hefty price, to the tune of $20,000,000. Yeah, I could’ve said $20 million, but I had to add the zeros to add to the effect. No matter how rich you are, $20 million is a lot of damn money!

The disgraced quarterback lost the first round in his financial battle with the Atlanta Falcons when an arbitrator ruled Tuesday that Vick should repay most of the bonus money he got while secretly bankrolling the long-running operation. The case is far from over. The NFL Players Association said it will appeal the ruling by Stephen B. Burbank, a University of Pennsylvania law professor and special master who oversaw last week’s arbitration hearing in Philadelphia. The Falcons argued that Vick, who pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges, knew he was in violation of the contract when he signed a 10-year, $130 million deal in December 2004. The team said he used proceeds from the contract to fund his illicit activities and sought the repayment of $19,970,000 in bonuses he was paid over the last three years.

Any money the Falcons recover from Vick would be credited to its future salary cap, a huge step in recovering from the loss of the team’s franchise player. Atlanta (1-4) is off to a dismal start with Joey Harrington at quarterback. “We are certainly pleased with today’s ruling,” the Falcons said in a statement. “It is the first step in a process that our club has undertaken in an attempt to recoup significant salary cap space that will allow us to continue to build our football team today and in future years.” In a highly technical, nine-page ruling, Burbank said the Falcons were entitled to $3.75 million of the $7.5 million bonus that Vick was paid after signing the deal in 2004, $13.5 million of the $22.5 million in roster, reporting and playing bonuses he was paid in 2005 and 2006, and $2.72 million of the $7 million roster, reporting and playing bonus that he received this year.

Poor guy. And y’all know how frivolous these celebrities are with their money, so I would definitely be surprised if homeboy actually had every cent of the $20 million. Anyhow, he’s scheduled to be sentenced on December 10th. How long do you think he’ll get? A year? 5 years? 10? 20???

Oct.11.2007 // Bobby Brown Didn’t Have a Heart Attack…

Bobby Brown Didn’t Have a Heart Attack…

Yesterday TMZ put out a story saying that Bobby Brown had a HEART ATTACK SCARE and recorded a “death bed video” and err-thang! . . . Well according to Bobby-B himself, that’s totally not the case. The “King of R&B” (according to Whitney Houston) spoke with Lee Bailey of Eurweb exclusively about the “incident.” Apparently he was just in for a pre-tour checkup. Way to go TMZ!

A healthy-sounding Bobby Brown spoke exclusively with EUR’s Lee Bailey Wednesday to deny published reports that he was taken to two Los Angeles hospitals Tuesday night with severe chest pains that were later diagnosed as a mild heart attack. “I heard that I had a heart attack earlier, but I didn’t,” Brown told Bailey during a phone call Wednesday afternoon. Reports on TMZ.com, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Associated Press cited confirmation from Brown’s Atlanta-based lawyer, Phaedra Parks, who said Wednesday: “This morning they did diagnose him as suffering from a mild heart attack … they attributed (it) to stress and diet.”

However, the 38-year-old singer said he went to the hospital for a simple pre-tour check-up – “I gotta make sure my vitals and everything is straight” – and next thing he knew, folks were reporting that he had suffered a heart attack. “That’s what happens when you’re Bobby Brown,” he joked. “I just had some procedures done. The doc cleared me and said, you know, [go] do what I do.” As for his lawyer Parks’ confirmation to various outlets regarding the supposed heart attack, Brown says: “She got bad information from somewhere else, and that just goes to show that people need to talk to each other more often in order to make things right.” CONTINUE READING
