As you all may or may not know … I like to spotlight a lot of dope unsigned, indie and/or underground artists on the site! This purpose is to keep music peeps well-rounded and up-to-date on what’s going on in their community. So, here are a few MySpace pages I visit in my spare time (3 (of the 4) acts I’ve featured already).
Tokyo Diva, residing in NYC, is a young lady who is not only a talented artist and trendsetter, starting an underground movement called The Juice Krew (based in NY and outside areas), but she is also a MySpace Guru receiving more than 1,000 music plays a day on MySpace. Tokyo was also the first unsigned artist to perform on MTV’s TRL and she created the theme song Bad Girls for the hit TV show on Oxygen, Bad Girls Club. Thanks Christine for the info!! Here is a yet another track by Chris Brown, featuring Keri Hilson, from the re-release of his album Exclusive: The Forever Edition (Jive). It is a nice little fairytale ballad, literally. Chris was a tad weak on some spots but I will admit that he meshes so well with Keri on this song; although in addition to the female counterpart the repetitive “love” song shit, from No Air to Superhuman, can be a little redundant. I feel like Ne-Yo when he said, “I’m so sick of love songs!” This being relevant in my case.
Lindsay Lohan is back with all new material for her forthcoming album set to be release later on this year. The song is called Bossy; it was produced by Stargate and written by Ne-Yo. Wow, what a trio! Word on the net is that Lindsay will be going for a more urban-disco feel this time around. I’m loving this song, with it’s heavy synth and rhythmic sound, it totally fits her! I can see this being a major hit single if marketed properly. The song is sexy, aggressive and kick-ass! Anyway, it’s good to see LiLo switching it up a bit — though I do love her latest album, A Little More Personal.
A brand new track has surfaced by Ashanti entitled Lose Your Love, the song appears to be a leftover track from the R&B singer’s forthcoming album, The Declaration, set to release this Summer off The Inc. I can see why it was scrapped. Lose Your Love, although exudes beautiful affection and passion in lyrics, sounds quite weak of a track for Ashanti; and to be honest I’ve heard better from her.
Here is a brand new leaked track from Nelly’s forthcoming album, Brass Knuckles (Derrty/Universal), which will be in stores this Summer. The song, Stepped On My Js, features Ciara as well as Jermaine Dupri who produced on the track; it also features a sample from J-Kwon’s (remember him?) Tispy. The song is alrite, I mean it wouldn’t particularly be single material, though.
Check out this crazy performance of Diamond Girl live by Ryan Leslie at Spotlight in New York City! Wow, I wish I was there that night, they were rocking out hard! Ryan Leslie’s eponymous album releases this Summer off Next Selection/Motown. Make sure you go out and support this talented guy!
Here is a new track from N*E*R*D’s forthcoming project Seeing Sounds (Virgin) also releasing sometime this Summer. The song is called Spaz and I totally spazed when I heard this song on a commercial!! I was like, “that must be new!” So I went to searching all over the Internet and apparently I was right! The song is fun and energetic, I just rocked out to it in my room a few minutes ago, my Mom thinks I have gone mad and I love it! N*E*R*D is back peoples…
Here are two brand new tracks from Usher’s forthcoming album, Here I Stand (Jive), which also will be releasing this Summer. Trading Places, produced by Tricky Stewart of course, would be nothing short of a Bed 2.0; it even has that heavy string allusion. Needless to say I love the song and this is definitely a good look for Usher. This Ain’t Sex is vibrant and rockable, this song reminds me of a something Scar would do, I really dig it!
Here are two brand new tracks that leaked from Donnie Klang’s debut album, tentatively titled Come Into My World (Bad Boy), set to release this Summer. The first song, Doctor Love, reminds me a bit of some old school Stevie Wonder; maybe even a modern day Superstition? I love this song! Hopefully Donnie’s label considers this as a future single becos I’m really feeling it! Rolling Stone would definitely make a smooth ladder, in this case.
Two, amongst a host, of my favourite singers fuse together for the ultimate collaboration! If I Never See Your Face Again by Maroon 5 featuring Rihanna will be a single, and added installment, to both artist’s albums re-releasing later this year. If I Never See Your Face Again was one of the many favourite tracks from It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, with it’s deep Prince influence, so I’m glad they’re releasing it as a single; Rihanna being a plus! The song is basically about having one night stands with your Ex, which is relative especially when your desperate.

I was just browsing some blogs online when I happen to come across Kanye’s latest entry, from his blog, which appears to be a retort to Entertainment Weekly’s tour write-up for Glow In The Dark; they gave it a B+ and apparently it looks like Kanye had some erhm … “colorful” choice of words in regard:
Yo, anybody that’s not a fan; don’t come to my show. For what?! To try and throw ya’ll two cents in? Ya’ll rated my album shitty and now ya’ll come to the show and give it a B+. What’s a B+ mean? I’m an extremist. It’s either pass or fail! A+ or F-! You know what, fuck you and the whole fucking staff!!! I know I shouldn’t dignify this with a comment, but the reviewer threw a jab at all the artists. I just wanna know when was the last time you enjoyed yourself. If you can’t have fun and lose yourself at this tour it’s a good chance you’re a very miserable person. I actually feel sorry for you guys. Your job forces you to not have fun anymore. Grab a drink, holla at some nice girls, and party bitch!! You don’t know shit about passion and art. You’ll never gain credibility at this rate. You’re fucking trash! I make art. You can’t rate this. I’m a real person. I’m not a pop star. I don’t care about anything but making great art. Never come 2 one of my shows ever again, you’re not invited and if you see me…BOW!! [me: Flawless.] This is not pop, it’s pop art!
And that is why I love him! For some reason I don’t think ANY ONE likes Entertainment Weekly that much. Hmm … I wonder why that could be? Lol!
Here are the official T2W video premieres from Busta Rhymes, Fall Out Boy and OneRepublic; with the first two being Don’t Touch Me and We Made It (featuring Busta Rhymes. Young starlet Raven Symone released her fourth studio album this week, please make sure you go out and support her buying the album!! It features stellar production from Sean Garrett, who will also be dropping an album later on this year, Oak and Mario (of the Knightwritaz) and of course The Clutch!!
Lordy, I have to honest, I got a little worried about that Double Dutch Bus single, I know Raven getting her money but c’mon now … she is too grown! However, HOWEVER this album is the epitome of grown, sexy, WOMAN-she’s woman now. So yeah, that Double Dutch Bus single is misleading indeed, there are no kiddie Disney fillers — thank Baby Daniel’s royal pimp hand!
Overall I would say Raven Symone’s new eponymous album is a good buy; and a nice birthday gift or something. There are a few bangers, with Sean Garrett, and some nice ballads. My favourite tracks would have to be Anti-Love Song, Love Me Or Leave Me, In Your Skin and Keep A Friend.
Here is the official T2W video premiere of Ne-Yo’s new single, Closer, from his album Year of the Gentlemen (Def Jam) in stores June 24th! View the video premiere of Take a Bow by Rihanna after the cut! CONTINUE READING
Body on Me by Nelly is a newly leaked track from the album Brass Knuckles, set to be released June 24, 2008. The song features Akon. I wouldn’t call it single material, per se, but it’s alrite. I’m still loving Party People with Fergie!
Here West-coast rapper The Game, as well as R&B singer Keyshia Cole, can be heard on his new single Pain from his forthcoming album L.A.X. (Los Angeles Times) in all markets June 24th, 2008! I like the song, it’s like a little homage to all the people that paved the way for them, even Keyshia shouts out Mary J. Blige at the end, even though people say she “bites” off of her which is lame! However came up with that word needs to get shot immediately.
i15, a dynamic trio consisting of Das, 21, Castro, 21 and Flash, 23 reppin’ the West-coast, has a new single/video out called Lost In Love, produced by Polo Da Don. I don’t know if you recall or not but they made a cameo in Soulja Boy’s Soulja Girl video. They are also signed to Zone 4/Interscope Records. Peep the video after the cut! CONTINUE READING
