NEW YORK, NEW YORK // MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH 2008 » Kanye West, Joy Bryant, Brandy, Serena Williams, andJay-Z where all spotted yesterday attending various Spring 2009 fashion shows during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Is it me or has Kanye been looking a little “rough around the edges” since his break-up with Alexis Phifer? WIMBLEDON, ENGLAND // SATURDAY, JULY 5TH 2008 » Venus & Serena Williams played the final womens’ singles match in the 2008 Wimbledon Championship today in Wimbledon. Venus came out the winner of a very close tiresome match against her sister Serena and was awarded the Venus Rosewater Dish! They both played so ambitiously and you can tell it took at toll on both of them. Venus won both sets (7-5, 6-4) to defeat her sister to claim her 5th Wimbledon title and 7th Grand Slam Championship. Within the first sets, Venus & Serena went back and forth with intense signatures force screams making the game more intense to watch.
WIMBLEDON, ENGLAND // THURSDAY, JULY 3RD 2008 » Venus & Serena Williams are at it again dominating in the 2008 Wimbledon Championship games once again! They’ve beaten every challenger they’ve been matched within the lineups. Serena was matched against Zhang Jie of China and took another victory of her to add to all the rest of the won sets in the tournament. Serena hit 14 aces in a (6-2, 7-6) winning the match! Serena also played a doubles match with sister Venus the day prior. Serena holds the 8-7 career edge over her sister Venus but they both still managed to dominate together. Serena says she was definitely challenged by Zhang Jie and it wasn’t easy:
“She definitely pushed me, Serena said, Unbelievable, and not only that she played a great game. She played like she had nothing to lose and she didn’t. I wanted to do more than maker a Wimbledon final, she added. I’m just happy to be back in a Grand Slam final.”
Serena Williams is on the cover of the new issue of Ebony for the month of July. She dishes on some her tips on how she stays healthy in the summertime and her relationship with Common. When Serena was asked on how she stays healthy she said:
“It’s too hot in the summer to cook, so I love to grill chicken and fish,†she adds. “I also love to grill vegetables and serve them chilled.â€
She also talked about Common:
“I think he’s a great guy. He’s obviously a great artist who is timeless and classic. You can’t beat that. But I have to focus on tennis because that’s my goal in life.â€
Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharpova for the fourth time straight on Friday, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1, in the Family Circle Cup quarterfinals. Serena hasn’t lost to Sharpova since 2005. I wonder will this spark a little bit of a rivalry if it hasn’t already. Check out the highlights video up top! Serena feels that this was best match she ever played:
“It was an up-and-down match,” said Williams, trying for her third tour title this year. “I don’t think I played my best. Actually, I played far from my best.”
